5k pr
Last year, I hit a milestone: my first and only sub-30 5K, clocking in at 29:52. Since then, I've made numerous attempts to break that personal record (PR). All ended up short. So I've been wondering whether it was just a fluke.
Then came my latest attempt.
Equipped with a new pair of shoes and a liter of optimism, I was yet on another attempt for a new PR.
Before the run, I set a target distance and time in my watch: 5K in 29:30. It was ambitious, very very far from easy. I was unsure whether I could pull it off. I just wanted to have a new record and break the previous one.
And break it, I did. More than a minute off my previous best. A convincing 28:27!
I'd like to think the somewhat-consistent training paid off. Having a target in mind (and in my watch) also gave the run purpose and urgency. It helped me push myself even more.
Goal-setting is important. Consistency is a key factor. And setting targets, however unrealistic, should propel us further.
Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you'll land among the stars.
