I am not a leader

I attended the first session of my MBA Management Class last weekend. It was the first time the class met the professor. She first did an introduction, screen-sharing an almost-5-minute video presentation about herself.

As the online class went on, we were also asked to introduce ourselves. My supposedly short introduction unintentionally turned into a bit of a convo as she threw some follow-up questions. Apparently, it left an impression on her because in the latter part of the class, something unexpected happened.

She explained that there will be group presentations for the class. And that she would need three group leaders. As the first two were selected, I was already thinking which group I would be joining. It will be the chance to network with other people.

Suddenly, I heard my professor say my name - "Mr. xxxxx, are you up to the challenge?" I had no choice but to dreadfully agree.

The nature of my work allows me to do presentations from time to time. I also manage a small team. But generally, I prefer to stay behind the frontlines. I do not like talking, more so public speaking.

That is just not my personality. I intend to stay lowkey and avoid any leadership roles. But I guess some people, aka my Management professor, have other ideas.

For the next few weeks, there's a challenge I need to take on, unfortunately. And there's no quitting.

Still, I am not a leader.
Or maybe I should start acting like one?
